So what is coding and marking?

Well quite simply put it is a way of putting alphanumeric coding onto a product. You have probably seen small black printed words or numbers on your everyday household products but never given them a second thought. Well this is the result of these products being coded by any one of the various coding and marking, inkjet or laser coding machines. Coding and marking can be and often is completed on almost any products from sheets of metal eggshells, yes you read that right, coding and marking can be completed on EGGSHELLS!

So what is so good about coding and marking?

Ok, imagine that a company who package jam in glass jars receives a complaint one day that there was a piece of broken glass in one of their pots of jam.

Suddenly they are confronted with the problem that there could be many more pots of jam sold to customers that contain broken glass. Can anyone say lawsuit?

They would potentially lose an absolute fortune trying to recall all of the pots of jam that they have sold. It could even send them out of business.

Now, imagine that coding and marking was a part of the packaging process and each jar was marked with a batch number. The company would very quickly be able to recall a certain batch and could even tell exactly where specific batches of jars were sent.

This is obviously just one hypothetical scenario and there are many more reasons that make coding and marking so important to a whole host of businesses.
